  1. It depends greatly on where you live and what conditions you are willing to go out in. We use quads at the ski resort in the early part of the snowmaking season (with tires) and then we have one quad we switch to tracks. 2WD sport quads don't perform as well as 4WD quads do. Ice and snow can usually account for some tricky driving, especially on downhill sections. Once the snowpack gets deep enough, we switch to snowmobiles mostly, but occasionally I'll still use a quad with tires. (Using the quad with a track is fun, but slow. I never get it stuck, but it takes a lot to turn the tracks.) If I can stick to access trails that don't have deep snow, I can usually get good traction on the rocks and leaves. However, on the packed powder and machine made snow, getting back uphill is sometimes a real *****.
