Ok, I'm trying to figure out how to optomise my network settings and I don't understand the meaning of "CTS Protection Mode"...the choices are "None" and "Auto".

I have a Belkin Router that has "Protection Mode" and it's definition is "causes the router to scan for interference before transmitting" but I don't know if that's the same thing?

Anyone know?

  1. That stands for clear to send.  Use request to send / clear to send when you have a lot of wireless clients on your network.  This helps avoid collissions.

  2. Cipher Text Stealing to the best of my knowledge is an encryption algorythm, ive actually never been sure what the purpose is as its kind of like reinventing the wheel since we already have WPA encryption but my knowledge of CTS is not all that great. Basically its another layer of protection that theoretically will make your network safer however it can also cause all kinds of problems trying to connect to your network.
