What is "Custom Firmware" for the PSP?

I need to know what custom firmware is, because I have some things I want to download into my PSP that require custom firmware.

it is an illegal firmware used to hack a psp to be able to play full games straight off your memory stick. that is the main use of custom firmware. youtbe has some vids on how to do custom firmware buy you will need a memory stick and a pandora battery.it is also used to do custom themes for the psp.but you psp can crash if something is done bad and if you have warranty for it, it gets removed because that is ilegal so be careful
