What is "Lip" when it comes to rims/wheels?

I think i have an idea of what 'lip' is, but im not sure? Is it the spacing from the spokes to the outer part of the rim?

Im sure theres names for all that but i dont know them.

QUESTION:

So what is lip? If you leave an answer, please leave a link of a website with the picture/example of what lip is?

  1. the lip is the part of the wheel that the tire bead seals/seats up against the inner part of the wheel-not the outside


  2. most outer part of the rim, normally where wheel weights go.
