Anybody knows what is "the age of Montel"?

Here is the line in movie, The Ladykiller:

"Do you know what they call colored folks in them songs?" she harrumphs for Sheriff Wyner (George Wallace). "Niggors: I won't say it twice. Two thousand years after Jesus, 30 years after Martin Luther King. The age of Montel! Sweat Load of mercy, is that where we at?"

  1. It is not a Biblical reference.

    I think she is merely making a reference to the Age of Montel, being Montel Williams  (the talk-show host), and how he uses that ugly word (a lot).

    She won't say the word twice (it's distasteful to her):

    Sweet Lord, have mercy, is that where we (the world) at?

    Of course this is just my take on the dialogue!
