  1. It is a spread for sandwiches made from brewer's yeast extract. it was invented in the early 1900's in Australia and is popular there. It is high in B vitamins and claims to be tasty. It is thick like peanut butter and is bouillon-like in flavor.

  2. the best spread eva lol i love it

  3. It is a spread, much like the British 'Marmite' and the peanut butter that you know, except it is a concentrated spread of yeast extraction that is high in Vitamin B (which also gives it an unusual and 'unique' taste.)

Because of the high Vitamin B, vegemite is really an aquired food - either you like it, or you hate it.

It was, as someone already said, made in the early 1900s, and even though it is made by Kraft, an American-owned company, most Australians still claim it as their own, like meat pies and a case of Tooheys during an afternoon cricket match.

Pointless fact - there is a new brand of vegemite released a few years ago in Australia, by d**k Smith (industrialist of sorts) called "Aussie-Mite."

  4. A Vegemite sandwich to an Australian kid is the equivalent of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich to an American kid - but the taste is QUITE different!

Vegemite is one of several yeast extract spreads sold in Australia. It is made from leftover brewers' yeast extract (a by-product of beer manufacture) and various vegetable and spice additives. It is very dark reddish-brown, almost black, in color, and one of the richest sources known of Vitamin B. It's thick like peanut butter, it's very salty,

  5. Aussie Aussie parra syd

  6. Vegemite is a dark brown, savoury food paste made from yeast extract, used mainly as a spread on sandwiches and toast, as well as a filling in pastries.  Vegemite is made from leftover brewers' yeast extract, a by-product of beer manufacture, and various vegetable and spice additives. The taste may be described as salty, slightly bitter, and malty - somewhat similar to the taste of beef bouillon.  The texture is smooth and sticky, much like peanut butter.

  7. Vegemite is an Australian spread that you use on sandwiches or toast. It is brown or Black in colour and is made from  concentrated yeast extract. It is a bit like Marmite but with less sugar. It has a salty taste , I like it on my toast in the mornings.
