  1. Auquenidos are animals which live in the Andes mountains. They are relatives of the camels, in spanish they are also called "camelidos" and in Peru you can find four different auquenidos: llamas, alpacas, vicuñas and guanacos. Llamas and guanacos are beasts of burdens while alpaca and vicuñas are known for their fine wool. Alpaca can also be eaten, the meat is tasty.

  2. alpacas...

"...the earliest references to new world camelids, as 'auquenidos' date from about 4000 bc...

...it was, however, during the time of the inca civilization that alpacas as we know them today were bred....

...the emphasis with this breed was on the fibre, not the meat...."

  3. Auquénido is the camelidae (lat. camelidae) of South America. It is represented by four species. Two are wild, the guanacos and the vicunas, and two are domestic, the flames and the alpacas. A characteristic of these camelidaes is the absence of sexual dimorphism. This means that it is not very easy to know which are the males and which are the females (without examining its reproductive apparatuses of fence), because they are very similar.
