  1. Bill Franco gave a very good answer.

The only thing I can add to that is that three genres are especially reliant on good bass guitar parts: heavy metal, dance and funk.

  2. it's an instument that plays a low-pitched sound or tone, one level below a guitar

  3. They are talking about an instrument called the bass.

Bass is actually the low part on a music staff, generally sung by men. Bass adds a lot to any music.

  4. Generically "Bass" refers to the lower frequency ranges in music.

A bass guitar is a guitar-like instrument that handles the low end frequencies in music. Notable players are Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten and Jaco Pastorius.  Some notable pop/rock bassists are Sting, Geddy Lee, Paul McCartney and Billy Sheehan.  If some of these names are unfamiliar to you, you should look them p and enjoy the music - you won't be disappointed!

    Hope this helps.  Good luck!

    Bill
