I havent heard of this term before. Surely people dont lock a dog up in a box to teach it something!? How sinister that sounds to me.

  1. you can also use crate training to potty train a puppy. if h sleeps in it overnight, get up early in the morning and as soon as you take him out et him outside to go potty. dogs dont like defacating in there bedding, so this will teach him the proper place to let it out...

  2. not a crate like shipping a crate like a dog kennel that sell at petstores.

  3. If a dog is crate trained, it means they will not go while they are in the crate.  Does not mean they are housetrained.  Most any animal will not go to the bathroom if they are stuck in a crate with it.  My dog was crate trained, but we still had to house train her.  We did not like the crating anyway, she could not run or play.  My sisters dog puked in her crate one time,  she was sitting way at the back to get away from it when they got home.  Dogs will only go in a crate if it is a total emergency.  Dont really care for the concept.

thats a crate it a place for your dog to go to sleep in, or if your not at home and want to make sure it doesnt get into anything put them in it.

  5. It is a 'box' that you put a dog in when you can't be bothered to put the appropriate time and effort into training your pet properly.

My dog is perfectly housetrained and socialized. All this was done without a crate.

The only time my dog 'goes into the box' is when he is transported to the vet. And that's only because he gets car sick. Any other dog I've ever had was restrained with a car harness.

Call it what you will but a crate is a box with a window.

  6. oh don't worry, its nothing evil.  its a way to house train a dog or puppy by putting it in a crate and taking it out.  if it goes after you take out to eliminate, then you let it play a bit, reward it and stuff.  if not, you put her back in the crate and take her out again a few minutes later.......i think thats what it is..or it could be training the dog to go in the crate instead..

  7. its a pet crate or pet carrier you put your dog in to train like potty training or keep it for anxiety when your gone or at night mostly used to potty train its not bad it does work if used in the right way........

  8. crate training is having a dog sleep inside a crate at night. yes it is locking up in a box. it trains the dog to not go crazy around the house. and actually most dogs like their crates. it makes them feel safe and cozy.

  9. The crate is a potty training method used when potty training puppies.  I only use mine for potty training, and when I am done with potty training I break it down and  store it.  I use it as a puppy bed for when I am sleeping, or not watching the puppy.  It is a safe place for the puppy if I am not watching her.  It is better than other methods I have used because the crate allows the puppy to see me when it is sleeping, so it can be reassured, or when I am doing chores, it can still see me.  When I am done with my chores, I have the puppy out of the crate, and we are practicing how to be good in the house.  While the crate traumatizes me, I have to admit my puppies love the crate.  It is a den and a safe place for them.  I have been able to potty train my puppies faster with the crate, and with less drama because the crate allows the puppy to always see me.

  10. Just think of wolves they live in a den area.         You should crate train you dog because  it does help with house training.   My dog lay in there crates with the door open.      You never use the crate as a punishment.   It also will help if you have to keep the dog quiet because of injury.    Check on the akc.org site for more help.

  11. Think of it like this do you put your child in a playpen when you are working around the house and cannot watch them as closely as you would otherwise? This is the same thing it is a safe place to put a pup or dog that will keep them from getting into things when you are not there, after training it becomes a place for the dog to go when he wants some peace and quit or just some down time.

You do not need to insult other members everyone has there own way to train their dog and some people cannot have doggy doors as they rent. I have had dogs trained both ways and let me tell you doing create training the right way is not the lazy way out it takes time and patience to train any dog and I would rather have my dog put into a creat than have him get into something and hurt himself. I had a dog that did this and that is why I use the create method.

  12. Crate training is kenneling your dog when you are not with it, in order to house break it. Its not sinister at all. Dogs will not mess where they have to sleep. When you start, put your pup in the kennel aka crate for 10 minutes. Then take it out and take him/her outside to go to the bathroom. Next do it for longer stretches, each time taking it outside after to go to the bathroom. When you are not home kennel your dog. Do not go for hours at a time with a new pup. Gradually increase its time in the kennel. I had my pup house broke in 2 weeks. She now has the run of the house, and she has no accidents. When you buy a kennel make sure its big enough for your dog to turn around in full grown. I also recommend putting an old towel or blanket in for the pup to lay on, one that you have held for awhile so it smells like you. Also a couple training treats so the pup learns the kennel is a good place and not a bad place. Good Luck! :)
