Prior to 1987 there were thousands of people, qualified to be programmers of safety-critical software, showing "persistent and marked distress about sexual orientation", and so being unjustly denied employment. Then in 1987 the rules change and these people are welcomed. But what is "just" about that ?

Now people unable to concentrate because of their health problems are responsible for safety-critical software. Someone has forgotten to ensure that each staffer is a "fit and proper person".

  1. Emotional stability is not a criteria for all employment yet. If it was I believe that unemployment would increase to 99.95%.

  2. We work with what we are given. Safety critical or not, the work must be done.

  3. The system is always set up for failure. Where one rule applies for the commonality it does not allow for change inside of the workplace.

What might be the rule now to keep from getting sued isn't necessarily healthy for the idividual even though it is healthy for the safety of the company.

Health care is not an issue that companies care about anyone. If someone dies, or kills themselves or whatever distress they have, there are hundreds of others waiting in line to take the position who is stronger and healthier.

Survival of the fittest has always been the game, so they set things up for failure to weed out the weak.

They have rights, and cannot be discriminated against, and we are supposed to respect that even though it brings the company down and makes our own jobs at risk by bringing the entire fortress down with them. So, the system is set up for failure. What rules may play out fine for one situation brings down the entire system in another situation.

If they could label it profiling they might be able to make the system work for longer and be stronger before it collapses entirely.
