What is "normal" shedding for an Iguana?

My 3 year old female green iguana has started shedding about every 3 weeks! Is this normal? We do feed and treat her well .She also has a very large cage (habitat). Could she just be growing that much?

  1. Yes, she can grow that much and its not a bad sign at all.  Iguanas will surprise you with their growth spurts.

  2. Sounds pretty normal for shedding. Older iguanas do shed less often then younger iguanas. Enclosure needs to be at least 1.5-2 times it's total length.

Hopefully you're iguanas habitat is at least 6-7ft tall x8-10ft long x 4ft wide, that is ideal for an adult iguana.

You may if you don't have one now, add a warm humidifier for the enclosure. It is best to pipe in from the outside in, so your iguana can't possibly hurt herself. Spray/Misting the enclosure will also help w/ humidity.

  3. She just might be going through a little growth spurt.  With proper care they will grow and shed more frequently.  I wouldn't worry.
