What is "rar" format?!! how does it work?

i have downloaded sth from internet now i am seeing it's rar format and i can't open it. how can i open it? does it require a special software or sth?if yes,where can i get that free online?

Rar files are like boxed up packages. The files you want are in the RAR files and yes, you do need a program to unpackage them. Here is a great program that is easy to use.

Download it, Install it, use the program to unpackage the rar file and there you have it!

WinRAR is the program I would recommend.  A RAR is basically a  compressed file similar to a ZIP (but in a lot of ways better).

You'll need to have WINRAR inorder to open a .rar format.

Its just the same concept as winzip- download WinRar. WinRar can open both zip and rar file formats.
