  1. She is a decendant of one of Charles II illigitimate children.

So is Camilla.  Camilla and Diana are distant cousins.

  2. More or less what Dana G said : she's descended from King Charles II, albeit through illegitimate children. Charles was of the Stuart dynasty and bore that family name, due to the fact his ancestors were the royal Stewards of Scotland before the Bruce dynasty died out and they became kings. The spelling was first used by Mary Queen of the Scots to avoid mispronounciation when she came to France to be our future Queen.

Interestingly, she's descended from FOUR of his b******s, meaning a serious level of inbreeding.

  3. Royal Stewart ( as is the proper spelling) is scottish Royalty not english as many would be led to believe.

Stuart is just another spelling ( Irish?) Royalty? perhaps?

  4. She was related to the Stuarts.  The Stuart name is considered royalty.  Interesting English History.

  5. It is anyone having family relations to the House of Stuart's.

  6. The Stuarts are technically the royal branch of the Stewart Clan of Scotland. The name was changed in order to differentiate the royal Stuarts from the rest.

Princess Diana is a Stuart through Charles II of England. Charles II had many illegitimate children. Charles Lennox, 2nd Duke of Richmond, was an illegitimate grandson of Charles II, and his daughters were the infamous Lennox sisters which are the great, great (can't recall how many greats exactly) aunts of Princess Diana.

The Stuarts came to the English throne after Elizabeth I (Tudor) died without issue, thus making Mary Queen of Scots' Son, James the VI of Scotland, heir to the English throne and he became James I of England.

Mary Stuart, Queen of Scotland/France was a Tudor through her Grandmother, Margaret Tudor, sister to Henry VIII.

  7. It means she's descended from the Royal House of Stuart. They were the first joint Kings and Queens of England and Scotland, the monarchs in order were: James I and VI (1st of England, 6th of Scotland), Charles I, Charles II, James II and VII, William III and Mary II (joint monarchy - William III ruled alone after Mary II died) and finally Queen Anne.

James II and VII was the last Catholic Monarch in the UK and his oldest son did not inherit because he was Catholic, he's known and the "Old Pretender", his son (Bonnie Prince Charlie or the "Young Pretender") was also Catholic and died in Rome and was the last serious pretender to the British throne, his son also claimed the throne but was not taken seriously by the British, as he was a Cardinal he had no children.

Mary II and Anne were sisters and daughters of James II and VII. William III (of Orange) was their cousin and married to Mary II. William and Mary had no children and Queen Anne only had one son who survived past infancy and he died when he was 11.

  8. Her ancestors were of a royal blood line with the surname of Stuart.  Thus, because of her royal blood, she was eligible to marry royalty.

  9. came from royal family or ancestors or royal blood.

  10. A lot of times, this describes people who are descended from Charles II and one of his (many) mistresses. From what I understand, there is much royal Stuart ancestry in the British aristocracy-Charles had many mistresses, and many illegitimate children.

  11. Anyone who had a tartan blanket in their crib is said to have royal Stuart ancestry!

  12. Some of her ancestors were the Stuarts, who many say hold the legal right to the throne, that if they hadn't imported Germans to take over would be sitting on it now.  Just because she was related to them did not make her eligible to marry royalty as someone else who answered has suggested, it just made her much better looking on paper...
