After a mechanical inspection, I was told "LF wheel bearing" and that it costs about $300 to fix it? Is it reasonable? What needs to be done exactly? Is it replacing the whole wheel?

  1. the bearing fits inside the hub. you don,t have to change everything, just the bearing.

  2. It depends on the type of vehicle, the wheel bearing are inside the spindle or hub assy.  They are normally two set of bearings and two seals.  If it is a regular car with nothing else wrong but the bearing 300. dollars is alittle steep.

  3. Wheel bearing is a bearing that lets the inside of the wheel spin freely, and no 300.00 to fix is really high, i had a mechanic to quote me 60 for bearing and 40 for labor, if i was you i would get other estimate.

  4. See my link..

  5. If only you'd have included the year make and model of your car you could have received some exact parts prices. Assuming you have a front wheel driven car $300.00 is somewhat steep even if it is replaced with an American made SKF bearing company unit.

Front wheel drive cars have sealed driven bearing hubs which are not serviceable. If this is the case forward and backward motion from the ring and pinion inside the transmission case is transferred to the inner CV joints then to the drive axles into another set of CV joints. The outer set of CV joints are splined on the end. The spline turns the wheel bearing hub and flange assemblys that power the front wheels.

  6. what kind of car???

if its a whole hub bearing 300 isnt too bad

if its just wheel bearings thats high
