  1. Basically, it is to promote safety on the roadways.  You may think that is total BS, but it isn't.  The fact is that driving is one of those human activities that causes a staggering amount of death and destruction every year, and it is usually because somebody did not follow the laws that were established to help ensure safe, courteous motor vehicle operation.  If people would do that, there would be no issues.  Unfortunately, many do not.  Thus, law enforcement is tasked with (among many other things) enforcing traffic laws for those people who choose not to adhere to those rules.  Anyway, short answer is that it is for the safety of the motoring public.  I'm sure some idiot on here will disagree and say that it is about money making.  I guess that is the case in some little "wide spot in the road" places with no other revenue.  Personally, I think that's wrong, but I am sure that it goes on.

By the way, I am a former police officer (8 years), and I conducted traffic enforcement routinely as part of that job.  For the record (and it is a matter of record with the PD where I worked) I warned motorists far, far more often than I cited.

  2. Is this a joke?  I thought this was common sense.  Imagine there not being traffic laws at all...now if police didn't enforce the traffic laws then it would be the same as not having those laws.

I tend to like not having and dents or damage on my vehicles, along with not being injured by drivers doing what they wanted.

    SAFETY SAFETY SAFETY

  3. Danged if I know. Enforcement just tends to keep fools from getting themselves killed. Got too many already.
