  1. Ravioli is just stuffed pasta.  Usually made by placing small portions of a filling between 2 sheets of dough which is then cut and sealed to make individual squares or rounds which are cooked, and usually served with some sort of sauce.

Ravioli can then be boiled, baked or fried.  Fillings range from cheese, vegetable, meat, or even more radical things like desert.

  2. Ravioli is made from pasta.  A solid sheet of pasta is laid out, dollops of filling are arranged across it, another sheet of pasta goes on top, then the two are cut into sections so they end up like a pasta sandwich.  The edges are sealed to create a pouch around the filling.  Then they are boiled to cook.

There are tons of pasta types.  According to wikipedia, there are 350 different shapes with different names!

  3. RavioliRavioliRavioli is a traditional Italian pasta dish made by stuffing rounds or squares of pasta dough with a filling, creating a sort of pasta "pillow." The dish is wildly popular outside of Italy, and can be readily found in fresh and frozen form in most Western supermarkets. The fillings for ravioli are limited only by the imagination, as are the sauces which can complement it, and making ravioli at home is fun and relatively easy, if cooks want to experiment with new flavors.

So it is basically square stuffed type of pasta
