There is nothing wrong with saying plain old black. Not everyone prefers the term African-American anyway. For several reasons. People throw the word racist around like there's no tomorrow.

Anyway, I think he's just black. He didn't say he was Puerto-Rican or mixed. He probably has Puerto-Rican friends/girlfriend or something. Wearing a Puerto-Rican shirt doesn't automatically make you Puerto-Rican. ;)
