I have just been thinking, with so many stars... why is our universe... black.. or seems to be black, shouldn't there be light coming from all over the place oh and, why is the universe so big, i know its something that no one can REALLY answer.

I know galaxy's move at fast speeds around like 400 mph or something. I wonder if it is possible that the universe, is in something bigger ;x or could it be that it really is all blackness and the universe had an accidental stable planet boom.

I'm kinda scared, but then again getting angry just thinking about it.. never ending blackness,

Oh yea everyone, please! feel free to not just answer, but give your feelings too ;x, or your opinions.

  1. Actually your question surprised me initially,  But nevertheless its an amusing one.As for your first question, i.e, The universe is black, though there are many stars to illuminate it.

Thats because there is no atmosphere or air in the universe. Its just vacuum. The earth is illuminated by sun's rays because the atmosphere refracts the light giving a sky blue color that seems to lighten up the part of earth facing it.And so we can see stuff. We can view things when they reflect light. The moon is visible coz it reflects suns rays. The empty space in universe cant reflect any rays coz there is actually nothin there.

I dont know if u r actually gettin the point I am trying to express.

As for ur 2nd question, only God can answer it.I admit it freaks me out to think about the vast expanse of the universe and the ensuing never ending darkness.

  3. The further stuff is from us, the harder it is for the light from it to get to us. The vast majority of the stars we see are from our own galaxy. Other galaxies just look like clusters to the naked eye. If you want to get a real feel for just how insanely huge and varied the universe is, google the hubble ultra deep field, where they made the hubble telescope take 800 pictures of a part of space that looked completely pitch black, and put them all together. The result is one of the most humbling photos of all time.

Oh and the universe is (according to present theory) expanding way faster than any of the galaxies are moving, so no worries there.
