What is regular/normal mileage on a a used motorcyle?

I want to buy a used motorcycle but it seems that all the bikes i look at, they have alot of miles? So my question is how many miles should a bike have in whole year?

  1. You cant really judge by milage, It could be a daily driver to work, yet had an oil change and maintenance every 5000 kms, I would check out maintenance records and how well the bike was looked after, rather than worry about milage.

There is no set in stone what it should have, cars are around 12k a year, but motorcycles, it boils down to the previous owners riding habits. did they take it on a long 300-500 mile trip every weekend? do they ride it to work everyday? do they spin around town once a week? once a month? it all depends, Im a big 70's bike buff, and i run into bikes with 3-7k on them(yes, on 30 year old bikes)

  3. the number of miles isn't as important as the maintenance that was performed during those miles, some bikes are junk by the time they have 10k miles, some last well over 100k

  4. Mine was 28 years old and had 10,000 miles on it, other than a ding in the gas tank, it looks new, I had to replace the mirrors.
