  1. It varies from school to school.

Some school have a generic "beginners form", ours is called Chun Ji (different from the ITF Chon-ji)

Others teach you the first Tae Guk form, which is called Tae Guk il jang.

If you are at an ATA or ITF school, they don't do the Tae guk forms at all and would instead do the ITF Chon Ji or the ATA Songham 1.

Other requirements also vary, but some examples are:

physical challenge, such as push ups, sit ups.  Also demonstration of basic punches, kicks, stances.

Our school requires two self defense techniques and two "one step sparring" techniques.

You may also have to break a wooden board.

  2. We had to name all of the Korean commands and their meanings.

We also had to be able to count (out loud) to 10 in Korean.

When I took Taekwon-Do in the early 80s there was no orange belt. The first advancement was a yellow belt. I was in the ITF.

  3. well we had to go through one form/kata, (chon jean or however you spell it) then we had to go through kicks, punches, blocks, and i think one-steps, idk. then i dont think we sparred but we might have, it was like 5 yrs ago so idk.

    hope it helps.

  4. At my school, you have to go through a test of physical fitness, you have to break some boards, you have to know some korean terminology, and you have to know your forms, but almost every school does different forms at different belt levels, so I'm not sure which form your masters will have you do.

  5. It was a long time ago, but we went through a warm up, we were tested on our physical fitness, went throught the punches, kicks and blocks, were tested on self defense, then forms (and it was only one form, really) I can't remember if we sparred or not for that one.

  6. White to orange? What about yellow and gold? Must not be WTF TKD because I don't believe they do a white belt form anymore because they discovered it was actually a Karate form.
