Question:

What is required to become an art teacher?

I am 22 and dropped out of school because I was pregnant I was going for nursing then my mom is in the medical field so I followed her steps but I realize I love art a lot! I also love my 3 year old I think an art teacher is a perfect fit but Im not educated on what steps to take in getting an art teaching degree. Any one that can help me it is much appreciated!

  1. hiya my friend is training to be an art teacher.

    she got into uni to study a degree in art and design that lasts for 3 years....

    now shes on a teacher training course which lasts for a year whilst doing this she gets paid £14000 a year for working as a teaching assistant.

    then when the year is up she can work as a qualified art tecaher!!!

  2. You only really have to do two things. Major in visual arts (or something similar like art appreciation) and get your degree in that.

    Other than that, you just need your teaching certificate.

  3. There are degrees in Visual Arts Education. Learning to do art is one thing and an important ingredient but you also need to learn teaching skills AND how to teach Visual Arts. In most states you will need to have a Master's Degree and a teaching license. Good luck.

    Contact your local career center to see if you are leigible for training assistance funding through the Workforce Development Act or any other available Economic Development Program.  You can locate this through your state Employment Office.
