  1. you must be a hockey fan!

    and pronounce about like  Abooooot

  2. First you have to immigrate to Canada.  The fastest way is going through a provincial nominee program, otherwise you can apply directly as a skilled worker under a points system and wait for processing.

Once you get your permanent resident status which is somewhat like a US green card, you would have to live in Canada for 3 years before you can apply for citizenship.  The average processing time for citizenship is around 13 months right now.  You would have to take a multiple choice test with questions about Canadian government and history.  If you pass the test, you are called to a citizenship ceremony where you swear loyalty to the British queen.  If you fail the test, you get another chance by doing an interview.  Since Canada allows dual citizenship, you would be able to keep your US citizenship too.

  3. In Canada, there are some strict guidelines that immigrants must adhere to before they qualify to become citizens. An example of this is that only immigrants that have been granted permanent resident status and who are at least 18 years old can apply for citizenship. In addition, a permanent resident has had to reside in Canada for at least three to four years and be able to communicate either in English or in French. The application for citizenship costs $200 for adults and $100 for children (they must be permanent residents too), and usually takes around 12 to 18 months.

Immigrants are refused citizenship if they do not meet the criteria mentioned above. Other reasons for refusal include immigrants who have had their Canadian citizenship revoked, those who have been convicted of a crime, or charged with a criminal offense in the last three years, those who are being investigated or have been convicted of a war crime and those in prison, on parole or on probation.

If an application is successful, an immigrant needs to take the Canadian Citizenship test. If the applicant passes the test, the next step is to undergo an interview. Upon passing the interview, all that needs to be done is to wait for the ceremony when an immigrant takes the oath to become a Canadian citizen.

Just like other countries, becoming a Canadian citizen requires that an immigrant meet certain criteria and follow a stringent and sometimes strict process before granted citizenship. However, if an immigrant is knowledgeable of the steps that need to be taken, Canadian citizenship can be a fairly simple process.
