I know that gelatin is haram because it is made from animal bones and stuff. But what about rice flour gelatin--im guessing it isn't made of pork or meat. I've got to know and cant seem to find my answer on google. thanks for any help.

  1. Yes any Southeast Asian culture that makes it from Thailand to Malaysia uses the agar type of gelatin which is seaweed based "NO" animal parts and "NO Pork" is used.

Agar tends to set firmer than animal based gelatins so it is best for the rice flour gelatin, candies, desserts and little dumplings for cold coconut soup or sweet black rice.

Also some may be thickened and set with Mung bean flour also, I am a former chef, and worked in both Singapore and Japan, but travelled to Thailand and Vietnam when in the area, and have had many and made a few myself.
