Natural rubber comes from the sap of rubber tree. Synthetic rubbers are made by the polymerization of a single monomer or a mixture of monomers to produce polymers.

Rubbers are often vulcanised by adding sulfur to them, to make them harder and more durable.

I didn't know either but a few minutes leafing through my Encyclopaedia Britannica, Vol 19,  came up with this:

"Pure rubber (caoutchouc) is a compound containing carbon and hydrogen only, in the proportion corresponding to five atoms of carbon and eight of hydrogen (C5H8).  It belongs to the class of bodies known as terpenes and is related in chemical composition to the constituents of turpentine."

rubber funnily enough comes from a 'rubber tree'. or somethimes they do add more chemicals to the rubber to make it stronger and to last many years, but rubber itself is natural.
