  1. probably the single greatest gift to mankind

  2. It is a sport: if you want to know how to play, use google

  3. u use an american football to play and its like american football except less rules and lots of pain in the game you can even kick someone with studs and its not a foul like stupid american games

  4. rugby(league) is the greatest most exciting game on the planet....

  5. Its the ancestor to American football. Before pads, forward passes and the stop and start of each down were introduced. Its a pretty simple game of continuous physical contact, each team having full access to the ball. Essentially if you have the ball, no one can help you (no blocking, forward passing, etc..) you either drive in to the defense, or pass the ball back (giving up some ground) to let the next person have a shot at making some progress towards the goal. You can also kick for position. These are generic comments covering both league and union.

You really have to watch the game to start to understand it.. there is a huge focus on 'fair play', while doing your best to knock the snot out of the other team.

We have a 'differences between American football and rugby' discussion on our club web site, and a quick intro to the game... check it out at www.gastoniarfc.com

  6. Two thumbs up Von.... Spot on old chap!

  7. There are two separate sports - rugby league which I really don't get, and rugby union which is the best sport ever! In union there are 15 players on a team, 8 of whom are huge and form the scrum/lineouts which are ways of starting play. The rest of the team pass the ball to each other and try to run to the far end of the pitch to score a 'try'. You can kick the ball forwards, but only throw it backwards. A try is 5 points, a goal (kicked between the posts) is 3 points and a conversion (a kick from a try) is 2 points. The defending team try to get the ball by tackling, as you are not allowed to play the ball when you are on the floor other than one movement.

  8. Von got it right best answer right there
