  1. An ATV is more stable since it has 4 wheels.

  2. I ride both street bikes and ATVs and I must say that riding a ATV is safer.  This is because they are more stable when riding over really rough terrain like big rocks or large ruts.  I've seen guys on dirt bikes have to put their foot down risking foot, ankle or leg injury.  Dirt bikes also have a higher chance of letting you drop the bike to one side.  Also going through large deep mud holes is a breeze on a ATV versus a dirt bike.  Riding in the snow and ice is also much safer on a ATV than on a dirt bike since sliding on ice and snow on four wheels will still keep you up not the case on just 2 wheels.

There's pros and cons on both sides of the spectrum.  My suggestion to you is to try them out both in the type of terrain that you would enjoy riding in and see for yourself.  It is truly the only way you would thoroughly understand what we are trying to describe to you.

Good luck and hope this helps!

  3. It is a huge misconception that 4 wheelers are more safe simply because they have 4 wheels. There is absolutely no doubt that ATV's cause more injuries. Part of this is because people have a false sense of security on them and don't wear helmets. Generally at the track the ATV guys are the ones getting hurt the worst. This is for a couple reasons; first, for some reason when you crash an ATV it always seems to end up landing on you or running over you for some reason, second, ATV's high-side in corners and bikes low side generally. High-siding causes you to be thrown into the ground much, much harder and in turn of course causes more serious injury.

  4. either one is as save or risky as the loose nut between handlebar and seat

  5. dirt bikes unless ur racing

  6. I'm with JK13 on this one.

    Dirt bikes are safer.

With a quad, after a jump, if you were to land on just one of the rear wheels (as opposed to a perfect landing of the two rear wheels) - the quad not only bounces from the front to rear wheels, but it also bonces left and right.

Not in a smooth motion, but oscillating left-forward right-right rear-left front.

You're bouncing all over the place with no control.

You have to ride a quad to understand the un-stable-ness.

The tires add to the problem, as they are used in 1/2 of the suspension, because of the low tire PSI allowing them to bounce.

Have you ever watched the truck Big Foot climbing over cars? - monster trucks bounce all over the place.

  7. They will both get you! Nothing safe about either, Always gear up properly. I feel safer on a bike. If your a cautious person and only want to trail ride the ATV is best. Once you throttle up and take risks its not if but when it will happen.

  8. well it depends on your body shape. an atv has more handle if you have a heavier weight and larger body. a dirt bike is more versatile and anyone can ride it but an understanding of motorcycles would help you out a lot.

  9. Im gonna have to say a dirt bike is definetly more safer because   even though it is only two wheels you have more control and can maneuver it better than a quad.

and dirt bike are funner to jump and go fast.
