  1. im nto really sure but i think its the percentage of how many times u hit a drive into the rough, but still hit it on the green. so lets say in a round of golf u hit 10 drives into the rough. out of those 10 you hit 5 back onto the green. that would be a save. so ur save percentage would be 50%. so to calculate it, all u have to do is divide the number of saves u have by the number of drives u hit in the rough. 5 saves out of 10 drives into the rough-- 5/10, so u would divide 5 by 10, which equals 0.5 (50%)

  2. Wow!  All three answers to this point are wrong.

You have not been specific enough in your wording, so it's difficult to know exactly what you are alluding to.

The PGA TOUR keeps track of only one statistical category which contains the word "save," and that is Sand Saves Pct.

For Sand Saves Pct., this applies only to greenside sand bunkers, and relates to the pct. of the time a player gets "up and down," or two shots or less, after his ball finds a greenside sand bunker.  The "up and down" is regardless of total score for that hole.

Some other golfing associations or leagues keep track of Par Save Pct., where a player's pct. of pars from either missed fairways or missed greens are calculated.

Now someone else alluded to the pct. of par saves from only a green missed in regulation....that stat is called the Scrambling stat.

  3. A save is when you've missed the green, land in a sand trap or have a bad lie in the rough, and get "up" (on the green) and "down" (make the putt) in 2 strokes to make par.  You normally are allowed 2 putts per hole to make a par, so when you miss the green, only need 1 putt, and still make par, then you have "saved" your par.

A save percentage is the number of times that occurs and the number of times you were successful.  One success out of 5 situations (in a sand trap) is 20%.

  4. I think you might mean "getting up and down". This happens when you miss the green in regulation and need to get up and down to get par. For example you are playing a par 4. You miss the green with your second shot and are laying 3 some where around the green. Now you need to get your 3 close to the hole so you can make par, thus getting up and down.Note if you hit the green in regulation there is no calculations for "getting up and down". Also there are "sand saves". This is where you hit into a greenside bunker and need to get up and down for par. Same thing as "getting up and down" only this time it is in the bunker. Hope this helps.
