Doing everything on your own, thinking for yourself instead of following others, studying to achieve the best grades possible, losing weight and staying healthy. Its basically self control and minimum/no reliance on anyone else to keep yourself motivated to achieve in life.

For instance, an overweight person on a diet at the grocery store who doesn't buy the chocolate cake is practicing self-discipline.
