What is seratonin and what happens when it is low?

my friend suggested i have low seratonin but i dont know what that is or what it does when its low

Serotonin is a brain chemical.  It's problem is not having low or high levels, it all about how fast your brain re-absorbs the serotonin in your brain.

If it absorbs it too quickly or too slowly, you can have emotional problems, such as depression, and others.  Anti-depressants are one medication used to control this issue.

Tell your medically challenged friend diagnosing your brain chemical status to take two Tylenol, and call you in the morning.  Tell him/her you went to Quik Lube and had a quart added last night.
