A Ferris wheel rotates at an angular velocity of 4.0×10−2 rad/s. At t=0 your friend Seth is at the very top of the ride.

What is Seth’s angular position at t = 3.4 min measured counterclockwise from the top? Give your answer as an angle in degrees between 0 and 360. Express your answer using two significant figures.

  1. The angle (in radians)=ang_velocity (in radians) * time (in seconds)

    3.4 minutes = 3.4*60 seconds

    the angle a after 3.4 minutes is:

    a=4.0×10−2 * 3.4*60 = 8.16 rad

    To convert radians to degrees, you multiple by 360/2pi

    the angle in degrees is 8.16 * 360/2pi=468 degrees

    It looks like the wheel went around a full rotation, and is leaning over

    468-360=108 degrees.
