  1. Shakespeare wrote plays meant to be spoken rather than read.  People speaking English often actually speak in iambs (Da-Duh), and the verse in Shakespeare's plays is mostly in iambic pentameter (5 Da-Duh's to a line).  However, the plays also include prose sections, where people just talk.

    What's most important about Shakespeare's work is that it's written for the theatre, to be heard and seen on stage.
