  3. Simply put, this program will add related entries to your Windows context menus. For instance, WinRAR has that shell integration so that when you right click on a file from Windows Explorer, you will be able to launch winrar on the fly and compress the file.

  4. Its what allows services in an operating system kernel (ex Mac OS X) to be accessed.

  5. You are taking the area between functions and "spinning" it around some axis.  You are then left with a "shell".  

    Example - take a coin and pretend there is a whole in it.  Stand it on its edge.  Now spin.  You created a "shell" integration.
