baoding with thousand years history was the capital.

shijiazhuang has been a new capital of hebei province since 1968.

there are few historical places since it's a new developing city.

it's called the poorest capital in china,or the NO.1 village in china

however it does have some downtown...

It is the capital of Hebei Province and near Beijing. I suggest you also go to Chnegde which is also in Hebei Province. There is a Summer Resort which belonged to the royalty of Qing Dynasty before.
