  2. Shock camp is more commonly known as boot camp. It is based after the military module.

The purpose is to mentally make the offender see different perspectives in his life, the choices he has made, the people he refers to as "friends" and how he perceives himself.

It is strictly mental conditoning. The program ( at least in Ohio ) last 13 weeks and if an offender feels it is too much for them, they have the right to drop out and serve their original sentence in full.

For those that make it through the entire 13 weeks, the recidivism rate for the graduates is extremely low, around 10 %.

The entire purpose of boot camp is to take first time offenders of non violent crimes and instill new values rather than incarceration.

If he makes it through, he will be released on probation for another year or so and will be monitored to see how well he behaves now in society.

If you have any influence with him, try to make him understand he needs to keep an open mind and accept what he will be taught.

Best of luck and I hope this is useful to you
