  1. A slime mold is a heterotrophic organism that once was thought to be a fungus but now is considered a protist, according to yahoo. Heterotrophic means it is not a primary producer, it does not do photosynthesis like algae or plants and so on. It has a slimy ameoba-like stage and then later a multicellular reproductive stage.
