I am having a difficult time on many states, being an African American woman. I have traveled to London, France, Monaco, and Italy and was respected as a human being. Why can't we Americans unite and work together?

  6. right now we are broken by everything you could name, class, religion, education the list goes on and on. so right now nothing except the fact that we are human and still have the arrogance not to allow ourselves to forget our differences and move on. we are still trying to conquer when we should be more concerned about our state of living. don't let people tell you that you are unamerican for asking questions and don't listen to everything the tube tells you either. I think it was a fair question, and theres hope that we will be united again it just depends on what we are actually uniting against whether it will be true unity or desperation.

The power of unity was well recognized by Ben Franklin, who first proposed the concept of the colonies banding together instead of becoming, like Europe, a bunch of little principalities in his cartoon 'Join or Die' printed in 1754.

Later, he made the famous statement at the signing of the Declaration of Independence, "We must hang together, or else assuredly, we must all hang separately" or something like that.
