The higher oil gets, the cheaper other fuels get in comparison to gasoline. The higher oil gets, the richer some entrepreneur will get if he creates a solution to the problem. The higher oil gets, the less people fill up their cars.

It's free market capitalism!

  1. i drive the same distance every week whatever the price of gas...what do u do..not go to school or work... the price of corn and wheat is doubled in a year... wait until a box of cereal is 6 dollars and a loaf of bread is 5 dollars... oh yeah..how about when your rent/home heat cost goes up 30 to 50 %   see how snarky you are then..

  2. Puts a dampener onto whatever outdoor pursuits you were hoping to achieve.

d**n cheeky, if you ask me !    $110 a barrel ............ what fetching cheek !!!!!

  3. Higher petroleum prices may well decrease demand but there is no sign so far of that happening.

Prices these days are driven upwards not only by increased demand from consumers, but also by economic indicators and forecasts, speculation, rumors, wars, weather (tornadoes), refinery fires and even the death of an Arab prince.

It seems that motivated by greed commodity brokers, speculators and oil companies will grasp any excuse to increase the price. There is no consideration of inflation, the cost of living effect on the poor, the effects on the national economy of inflated production and distribution costs or the balance of payments and the devaluation of the dollar.

Alternative fuels are not cheap and perhaps will not be cheaper than petroleum until fossil fuel reserves begin to deplete at which time all fuel prices will be adversely effected.

Vegetable oils derived from seeds and ethanol produced from crops containing sugars and starches would seem to be the best alternatives at the present. Perhaps mass production and genetic engineering of crop species will improve the situation but this requires  a tri-partite commitment and joint action from government, agriculture and industry.

  4. Short term, it'll make it difficult to get to work.

Long  term, it's a great thing. And that realization is WHY oil drops back every time it goes up. Every time people get angry, they begin actually working on or at least thinking about real solutions. And that scares Bush half to death! I had an idea for an 'energy store' that will barter grass clippings and cash for a full tank of ethanol/methanol. I think it'd work.

  5. How about the d**n price of gas???

  6. It is not the oil price going up ,it is the $ getting weaker. This makes every thing become more expensive.
