What is so great about the enviornment?

I am tired of all these hippies bothering me to "save the environment." Now I drive a Hummer that I worked for with a honest living and and honest job. I don't care if it's a so called "gas guzzler", I like it and its my car. I will drive what I want and won't conform to your demands.

I'm sure most of you well informed have heard of the indigenous tribe they discovered in brazil in recent days. Western civilization is not so reliant on a pristine environment, but civilizations that still live completely cut off from modern society rely 100% on the environment. If i remember correctly, the US constitution, although it doesn't apply to those that live outside the states, are the words that we live by. "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

I have been an environmentalist for a long time. I confess that it is very difficult to know facts from fiction where the environment is concerned. Hence, some of my decisions have been wrong and were based on the most current emotion rather than on factual data.

If you really have to ask what is so great about the environment, I have to wonder if you are truly happy in or out of your Hummer. What is so great about a Hummer? Does it not depreciate ... kind of like the environment that you do not plan on helping? Your one little Hummer is so inconsequential to the big picture but your apparent attitude of non caring is scary. I just hope that you will occassionally drive your Hummer into a forest road and park it beside a clear blue lake, take a few deep breaths, eat Hummer food, drink your preferred beverage and appreciate that there still is enough fresh air to re-start your Hummer. Enjoy your Hummer , smile at the little hippies as you drive by, give them a nice wave and a big smile, show those teeth when you smile, maybe toss a few coins their way, so they can buy some flowers to save the environment. Teach your children to be just like you but remember that the seeds you sow will be the ones that take root in your environment.

You should drive your hummer with pride. You've earned it. Folks should look at the big picture of the world today. Your hummer is NOT going to destroy the planet! And, so what if it's a gas guzzler, it's your money. Let folks say what they will. Drive your hummer, and wave at them as you go by!

Don't feel bad.I drive an older car and get the same c**p.Everyone says why don't you buy a more modern and up to date one? Well last time I checked the car is to get you safely from point A to point B and if its running fine,and no danger on the road(falling apart) and gets 24 miles to the gallon why should I make payments? Mine is paid for.Because 24 from 32 is only 8 miles difference but the money would be over $300 per month plus higher ins. plus the costs of gas.But those environmental minded folks just don't get it.Enjoy your fine ride,you are the one paying for it.It's your business.

This is why its so wonderful to tax gasoline.  The economic term is "inelastic demand".  Its the same reason that cigarettes and booze are so heavily taxed.  Its also the reason the price of these items is so high.  No matter how much the price increases some people will continue to buy.  If we taxed milk as much people would quit buying it and we would not raise the tax revenues that we are after.  So there really is social benefit from the stubborn folk out there.  What's real interesting is that these folk brag about the fact that they have control, and they will pay whatever they have to to government and Arab princes just to prove that nobody has control over them.  Interesting folk.  I like them.
