What is so important about the Dokdo/Takeshima islands?

I hear a lot of hubbub about these small islands. Why do Japan and South Korea fight over it? What is there that is so desirable?

  1. Japan's & S. Korea real motives are to acquire exclusive rights to the rich fishing grounds and potential natural gas reserves located around and under Takeshima Island.


  2. Dokdo have been a domain of Korea for several thousand years.

    Every Korean people know that Dokdo is Korea's territory.

    Even all of elementary shool boys and girls know about that.

    And several historical documents prove it.



    But Japan don't give up the desire to expand its territory since the World War II. Japan  government sometimes claims Dokdo as an inherent part of its territory becuase of the merit.

    Some of Japan's historians accept the fact that Dokdo is Korea's territory.
