What is so special about Sarah Palin? ?

McCain seems to continue standing beside Palin even through the current controversy. However I am wondering what did he see in Palin? What I mean is why did he choose her and not someone else? He could have chosen Condi Rice, Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, or even Tom Ridge. There were plenty of others to choose from. Don't get me wrong I have nothing against Palin. I am just wondering what made McCain pick her over the other prospective candidates? Your thoughts.

I think the proof is in the pudding.

You can't deny that the entrance of Palin to this ticket has the Republican base in exaltations. Finally a reformer; a conservative; an anti abortionist; a woman who displays firm strength and resolve, yet does not descend into the white-knuckled, bra-burning outrage seen in feminists.

The base which was fractured is now whole, remade, and energized. McCain's coffers are filling up with donations in record amounts. The Evangelical movement has given Palin a thumbs up, and carried hundreds of thousands of voters to John's ranks.

The strength of Mac's decision can also be seen in the maniacal fury going through the press right now. The same papers who lambasted conservatives for criticizing Michelle Obama (who has given political speeches and actively campaigned), is now on a despicable witch hunt for Palin's children, none of whom have had any role in national politics whatsoever.

No, there can be no denying it. Sarah Palin has brought more to the campaign than any other "safe" choice McCain could have made. Now we wait and see how well John and Sarah ride this new energy into the next presidency.

I wondered and think the same thing.  I dont have anything against her either.  I know McCain doesn't get along too well with Romney....so maybe he only got along well with her.

Sometimes just as a conspiracy theory I think BP oil just lobbied enough money to McCain that he had no choice. Seriously, he could have chosen someone way better especially with the current situation Palin is in. She was even vetted by McCain and his party warned him of the consequences.

Current controversy?  Do you mean because her daughter is pregnant?

I think there were 2 reasons McCain picked Palin:

1 - She makes the conservative base happy.

2 - He wants to run against business as usual in Washington, including the Republicans that took advantage when they were in power rather than serving.  She's got great credibility there.

My prediction:  After McCain wins he focuses on foreign policy and turns the attack dog (Palin) loose on Washington.

I think Rice is far too bright to run for political office at the moment. I wanted him to choose Huckabee but...

As for Palin: I like her non-DC, NRA, for-oil-independence stance. Still not voting for McCain but her choice actually makes me look upon him more favorably.

I think it's because she seems closer to regular people than his other candidates. I disagree with her on just about every issue. I could never ever vote for her.

The group of people who choose her were trying to get voters who wanted Hilary but now dont know who to vote for. I personaly dont like the move it appears McCain is more worried about getting voters and trying to win the election than planning for the future of the country after the election

4. She is a governer, not a two year senator Obama

5. She is bi-partisan

6. She is for gun ownership, whereas Obama is against it so this gives McCain the NRA vote

Nothing that I've seen/read about.

It's funny, Larry King asked this female Republican Representative "Is Sarah Palin the BEST that the Republicans could come up with?"

The answer was "That's the choice Senator McCain made".

Larry interjected and said "That's NOT what I asked you" then he repeated the question only to receive the same answer.

I'm still scratching my head over the Palin choice. All the baggage that she's bringing to the table makes it even more befuddling.

There is many speculation about how the democratic party is still divided because of the Hillary Clinton voters. Since Obama didn't pick Hillary as his running mate it has open new wounds. This is McCain's way of taking advantage of these wounds, by picking a women V.P(first in history) and trying to bring those women voters to the republican side. He is a crafty old dog isn't he
