What is so unique about Frida Kahlo? and what is so unique about her work?

I don't get it when ppl say that she's such a unique painting. I see her a painting as any painter. She's not like Michelangelo who's so talented. Now, that's a unique artist!

  1. In life, I don't think you get to hang out with the Diego Riveras of the world unless you are a genius.


  2. Her self portraits told a story.  Michelangelo was a master of anatomy, not story telling.

As far as I know, it was her use of striking colors and stylized symbolism which was recognized by the art community, but not so much during her lifetime, only after her death, as it is with so many artists. She was married to her mentor, Diego somebody, a mural painter. Watch the movie Frida with Salma Heyak and Robert Molino (not sure of his name spelling). It came out 5 or so years ago. At one point, there is a dance scene with Salma Heyak and Ashley Judd which is the most sensual I have ever seen... I am talking hot, hot, hot...
