  1. a social problem is a condition or regularly occuring event which causes unnecessary hardship on the affected people

    examples - poverty, drug addiction, increased population, pollution etc.

    Social problems are often studied in conjuction with social policy - in that respect, anything requiring a government policy could be described as a social problem :-)
