    Right before I saw this Q, I was wondering "What exactly IS sociology?"

    at first I thought it was the study of socializing but it's with an A not an O.

    In short i would say it is a science that deals with society.Why do i call it a science?Because it deals with current situations, the daily happenings.And it involves different methods of research to attain its answers, of which some are long term and others short term.

  8. It is the study of society and social structure.  It looks at how various factors in our society inter-relate with one another and how institutions like the state, education, family etc. are formed and how they work with one another.  

    Sociology works to identify social concerns using scientific methodology; anything ranging from anorexia in youth to crime in the projects.  Ideally this information can be used to formulate a solution but that doesn't always happen!
