  1. I beg your pardon?

I don't think you play AFL......Australian Rules football, maybe.

    What country are you in?

  2. Go to www.afl.com.au

    - Put the mouse icon over 'Development'

    - Scoll down and click on 'Play AFL or any other fabulous resources - If new to game - even if older aged - go to Auskick and look for dvd info -play dvds that will show skills - there is a squillion tidbits - also ask at footy club for access to any training tapes of books (dvds etc)

I'm an umpire - so I'll tell you - make the ball your key objective, eyes and arms up, no shepherding etc - first thing is don't lose the free kick - after that, skills such as making full use of the arms to get lift in the jump, good communication and signals with rovers, make full use of centre circle for run in (but no feet on line or it's a free) - this is a coaching query but do follow the links - and good luck with AFL - the best fun game and family friendly activity I know.

  3. i think you mean that you play Aussie rules. keep your eyes on the ball as well as your opponent. dont know what else you could do cept jump higher or knock out your opponent. im more of a forward or centre myself lol.

  4. its mine

    if you touch it

    ill bash ya

  5. Who do you play AFL for, essendon, Carlton, Richmond, Sydney, maybe you are another person who thinks they play AFL,  what is wrong this statement, ' I PLAY AUSTRALIAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE'.  you either play 'in' the afl or you play Aussie rules.

keep you eyes focused on the ball, don't watch the ruckman coming in at you in center bounces, listen to the calls of your team mates, and above all, don't say you play afl if you only play Aussie rules, lol.

  6. If you play AFL then your ruck coach for whichever team you play for should help you out, but if you play Aussie rules footy then you might want to say so.

Get an early jump on your opponent and jump into him whilst keeping your eyes on the ball and listening to your fellow players as to where to hit the ball.

  7. Interesting point about ruck. You need to remember that the purpose is to tap the ball to your team's advantage ie give your team the first use of the ball. If you can't do that then stop the opposition's ruckman from doing it.

The likes of Simmons, Hille, Lade, Cox, Sandilands are tap ruckman. Generally they stand there and use their height to reach the ball first to tap to their team's advantage.

You'll also get situation where you have the third man up ie the ruckman's job is to keep the opposition ruckman grounded to another can jump over him.

A strong body and legs will certainly help. But you need to have a ruck plan. If you can't beat the other ruckman then perhaps the third man up might be a better solution.

  8. Rucking is a skill that the whole team needs to practise. Its no good winning ruck taps to no one .Coaches need to practise run throughs and player positions. I rucked for 20 years at my club and I was still learning. Learn to ruck from both sides and tap the ball with oposite arm to the takeoff leg. you'll gain extra hieght. One of the answers mentioned a third man in . Great idea but doesnt help you . Unless you make your self the third man. We would always put in some one else for the boundry rucks and I would come over the top Works a treat. Learn body position and how to hold your ground . Nothing worse than getting pushed out a contest . Always eye's for the .Good luck and watch those knees
