I just read "Anthem" by Ayn Rand and loved its shadowy and triumphant style; but I'm looking for more books to read. What are some good, dark books for adults? I remember how much I loved Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" trilogy when I was younger, and I'm looking for the book like it.

I loved Dante's "Inferno," so don't be afraid to hit me up with difficult reads.

  9. ANYTHING by Iain banks is excellent.. he's a bloody genious.

the Dark tower series by stephen king .

most books by king that are over 600 pages are good.

he also wrote a series under the name richard Bachman.. my favorite was the long walk...

  10. Dark Fiction? I read quite a lot of crime fiction these days, and I think the darkest I've read are the Dexter trilogy:

    Darkly Dreaming Dexter

    Dearly Devoted Dexter

    Dexter in the Dark

  11. Check out "The Dark Tower" series by Steven King...In my opinion it's his best work, and there's seven huge books so it should keep you busy for a while. It's very dark in the typical King way, but there's also a triumphant Western influence and the story is of epic scope.

Also read more sci fi like "Ender's Game". The sequels to that book, "Speaker for the Dead" and "Xenocide", are really wierd but also good.

"Broken Angels" and "Altered Carbon", both by Richard Morgan, are great sci fi noir novels that take place in the far future. Not so profound but they're dark and exciting reads.

Finally, there's a new author named Philip Rothfuss who wrote his first book, called "The Name of the Wind". It's very dark, and it's one of the best fantasy stories I've heard in a very long time.

  12. well you can't ever go wrong with Stephen King but i'll share with you a GREAT series of books the series is called The Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind. The books are GREAT!! and exciting. I hope you find them as enjoyable as i did.
