  1. a big cardboard box with holes for doors and windows, painted brightly with lots of different textured things stuck on it( bubble wrap, cellophane, a patch of polar fleece, tin foil, paddle pop sticks, pipe cleaners, pom poms). you could also make a really short and simple personalised story book and stick it to the wall. paint number and letter charts brightly on one of the outside walls to help him associate learning and fun. put inside it any old biscuit tins and pots or pans or plastic plates and cups that you no longer want or use.

for ride on toys, i suggest the opp shop. my 1 1/2 yr old brother has a battery operated four wheeler ride on motorbike toy and i think it was only about ten bucks from the op shop. he would love it just the same if it were a hundred dollars... lol he doesn't care.

happy birthday to your son, and good luck. i hope this has helped.
