  1. I think the most important thing to plan on is drinking as much hot chocolate as you can when you're in Spain.  They are supposed to have the best cocoa on the planet!  Please have a mug for me!

  2. I did that trip three years ago.  I landed in Madrid, went down to Malaga by car, drove to the Rock of Gibralter, got a ferry there to Morocco and then drove from Gibralter to Portugal.  Of course don't forget a passport, you will need it, but most custom agents barely look at it when they see you are American.  Don't buy car insurance if you are renting in Spain.  It's included.  Also make sure that you can take the car out of the country.  Do homework for portugal as the prices there are inflated.  I went in an off tourist season.  As for Morocco, the books say get a guide if it is your first time.  That's okay advice, but be aware that guides have deals with businesses and will bring you to places that are expensive and because you are American, they think you will spend thounds of dollars in their stores.  If you have a good plan of action for Morocco and feel safe and adventurous, then get a good guidebook and stiff the guides.

You can find a lot of stuff about traveling to every country in the world, though they usually use a sacartic style, I think it's a good site.

About spain, there is this web too http://www.spain.info it's an official site.
