  1. First: Get as much experience with children before you get to college that way you know for a fact that you love being around children. You can babysit, volunteer, or just visit a kindergarten classroom.

Plan to be a teacher's aide (if possible) during your junior or senior year of high school. I was a peer teacher my senior year in a preschool. I think other schools offer that.

Some schools have programs for seniors who want to be teachers. I am not sure what it's called, but you could check with your guidance counselor.

Talk to an actual kindergarten teacher. Ask her about her daily routine and ask if you can spend a day in her classroom observing.

Make sure you really love this profession. Once you have had all the experience you need being around children, go to a university with a good teaching program. Talk with an advisor in the teaching program and they will help you from there.

    Good luck!
