  1. Supposedly they are harmless as long as your door seal is not malfunctioning.

It's when the actual microwaves escape is when the trouble begins.

People with Pacemakers and the like MUST avoid being near them..period.

  2. well if you use them it too much its harmful radioactive waves can cause cancer (supposedly) but that hasn't really been confirmed yet.

  3. it depends on which microwaves ur talking about. the appliance - nothing really bad unless it screws up.

the radio waves - they can be depending on how strong or how close u are; they can cause major health hazards, but that's rare. (cell phones won't cause cancer, so don't worry about that)

  4. hmmm people feel the need to microwave stuff that should never be cooked in a microwave.... like scrambled eggs, pancakes, turkey, etc..  thats got to be the worst... as for illness no nothing proven with newer models made after 1992... unless you leave a fork on the plate...

  5. they kill the enzymes/vitamins in your food

  6. um if a pregnant woman stands near it while its warming up some food some radiation stuff infects the baby

  7. wow! some dummies out there.

Microwaves work by vibrating water molecules, this causes friction and thus generates heat. this process can destroy the nutritional contents of some foods.

As for radiation the microwave is quite safe unless deliberately tampered with, with the intention to create a radiation field.

  8. You can't put eggs in them.

    Bad things happen.

  9. microwaves are a part of the electromagnetic energy spectrum like radio, light, and x-rays. The most common use for microwaves is cooking with the microwave oven. There have been studies that food cooked this way may be hazardous, i.e. microwaves do not cook food evenly, so there may be spots where bacteria has not been killed. Also improper handling of microwaved foods result in accidental burns, sometimes up to moderate 2nd degree! I found these answers while browsing yahoo web search. I hope they help.

  10. Some microwaves may leak radiation and here are some of the effects: Sensitive body parts, such as the eyes, testes and brain, are not able to get rid of the extra heat that may build up. However, the situations where effects of thermal (heat) damage has actually occurred to the eye or brain required long term exposure to very high power densities well in excess of those measured around microwave ovens.

  11. Microwaves are only bad in the hands of people misusing them.  But there are lots of things people feel can pose dangers involving microwaves, so there have been studies and such.  Some interesting reading can be found in the article linked below.  I'm not going to stop using my microwave.  But I will follow some simple tips.

"Here are some things to keep in mind when using the microwave:

Most takeout containers, water bottles, and plastic tubs or jars made to hold margarine, yogurt, whipped topping, and foods such as cream cheese, mayonnaise, and mustard are not microwave-safe.

Microwavable takeout dinner trays are formulated for one-time use only and will say so on the package.

Don’t microwave plastic storage bags or plastic bags from the grocery store.

A recycle symbol does not mean a container is safe to use or reuse in the microwave oven. Only a microwave-safe icon or wording to that effect does.

Before microwaving food, be sure to vent the container: Leave the lid ajar, or lift the edge of the cover.

Don’t allow plastic wrap to touch food during microwaving because it may melt. Wax paper, kitchen parchment paper, or white paper towels are alternatives.

If you’re concerned about plastic wraps or containers in the microwave, transfer food to glass or ceramic containers labeled for microwave oven use."

  12. i heard you weren't supposed to stand next to them if you were pregnant. and they are radioactive....so they can harm you over time...

  13. they give you brain tumors.

  14. they say that the waves given off my the microwave can damadge your brain.

  15. well... even tho they are quite quick they just aren't quick enough... i hate watching the seconds tick down lol... :D

  16. The shite ones use too much power; the good ones are 4+ star energy savers for the environment.
