I read 24/7, and I bought a bookmark w/ a charm on it, but it slides out easily. So I thought, hmm I should make one! Any suggestions?

  1. There are loads of ways to make bookmarks from polymer clay (alone, or with other materials added)... and they can look almost any way you want.

Check out this page at my site for examples, lessons, etc.

  2. Do you knit, crochet or cross stitch?  There are some nice bookmark patterns for all of those.

When I was little I made a bookmark with Double Prong Alligator Clips (google for pictures).  I from construction paper 4 mitten shapes all the same size, but different colors.  Glued two mittens together over each side of the clip and allowed to dry.  You can of course use any shape you want, they hold the pages tightly but since they're covered in paper they don't rip the book.

    You could also use ribbon.

  3. You could make a bookmark thong.  It basically is made out of a piece of wire, string or ribbon with charms or beads hanging on each end.

  4. One idea I love, is making a magnetic one!

You just take card stock (or felt would be nice!) and make a bookmark shape and then fold in the middle and glue a magnet on either end (make sure the poles are correct!) and Voila!  A bookmark that REALLY keeps your place and never falls out.  You can decorate as you like and personalize it!  I especially like this type as there is nothing dangling (to get ripped off or soiled) and it just does its job!

  5. probably the easiest and cheapest way is with strips of felt = you can do anything with felt - sew on it - glue it - cut in shapes - paint it, add glitter, beads, charms, lacing, ribbon, lace, embroidery = felt is a do all material = and your creativity is the only thing holding you back.

also a nice book mark i have is pressed flowers - in a long rectangle of clear plastic that has been put through a laminating machine.  it has 4 leaf clovers. and has green ribbons hanging from it through small punched holes at the bottom.

another good idea is to put an address sticker on the back of any book mark you use - if you should ever leave the book somewhere - the finder would be able to contact you for a return.
